November 2022
Voting is precious. Here are two wise ways to have your vote more predictably counted:
1) With Ranked Choice Voting, ONLY fill in your “1st Choice”. No others. (Governor Newsom himself gave this advice in 2021 to improve his odds in his own Recall Election. He was successful.) No law says you MUST fill in more than one choice, so don’t. It is just “encouraged” by the way the ballot is written. Don’t be swayed! Make one choice and enter it into “1st Choice”.
As it is simpler, presently, to just do an end-run versus eradicate Ranked Choice Voting statewide (which is what is needed), please, do the end-run.
Remember: It was Ranked Choice Voting that allowed D.A. Boudin into office. He then encouraged criminal activity while lowering the bar on crime, removing accountability, and tying the hands of our police from acting on our behalf. This caused people to leave San Francisco and created much damage to our citizens, our tourism and our businesses. He was removed by Recall (2022) and Brooke Jenkins was Appointed D.A. Thankfully, she’s putting teeth back into City laws and new residents are slowly arriving.
2) Mail-In Ballots are extremely tempting and, at times, very helpful. If you truly want to be sure your vote counts, however, either drop off your filled-in ballot or vote at the booth. In our June primary, almost 106,000 (1.6%) mail-in votes were rejected. Here’s why: 1) No signature on the envelope; 2) The signature doesn’t match what’s on file; 3) Missed the deadline. (Also, and very importantly, voter guidelines and the USPS are, presently, out of sync but no one has figured this out yet. Instead, ballots are rejected.) Just because your last-minute mail-in ballot seems like a good choice doesn’t mean it will be effective. Your vote is valuable and deserves extra effort by you! Do it.
Personally, I’d like to see Election Day be a Federal holiday that is tied to Veterans’ Day, since freedom is exactly what was fought for and won by our troops. Voting IS freedom. Make your vote truly count!
